Tree used for the annual shrine of Ise Shrine
It has good moisture resistance and water resistance, it is regarded as the highest quality as a building material and emits fragrance over a long period of time. In old days Kosui Susanoo myths use Hinoki as a building material and it has been useful as a temple shrine material. The architecture of Hinoki in the Asuka period has its lifespan of more than 1,000 years. It is also used for Buddhist sculpture of national treasure. There is a theory that originates from the word "spirit tree" and "sunrise" representing the sun from the point of use for the shrine of the Shinto shrine such as the Year of the Shrine of Ise Shrine.
伊勢神宮の式年遷宮に使われる木
耐湿、耐水性が良く、建材として最高品質のものとされ、芳香を長期にわたって発する。古くは古事記のスサノオ神話でヒノキを建材として使用しており、寺社仏閣材として重宝されてきた。飛鳥時代のヒノキの建築は1,000年を超える寿命を保つものがある。国宝の仏閣彫刻にも使われている。伊勢神宮の式年遷宮など神宮の用材に用いるところから「霊(ひ)の木」、太陽を表す「日の木」を語源とする説がある。
