The carpets woven by the nomadic tribes of southern Persia (southwest Iranian plateau) are called Gabbeh. The design was expressed using rush weaving while retaining the hand-woven texture. The inside of a rush has a honeycomb structure similar to a sponge, which has a large surface area. Therefore, when rushes breathe, they absorb nitrogen dioxide and formaldehyde from the air, purifying the air.
