Alumite (anodic oxidation treatment) is a surface treatment in which aluminum is electrolytically treated with an anode (+ electrode) to artificially generate an oxide film (aluminum oxide).
Aluminium easily combines with oxygen and forms a very thin oxide film when exposed to air. Because it is protected by this naturally produced film, it is generally said to be resistant to rust and has good corrosion resistance. However, since this film is very thin, it can corrode due to chemical reactions depending on the environment. Therefore, surface treatment to protect the surface, ie alumite, is required.
