This is the Crescent Chair, a best-selling and representative product of Hida Sangyo. It boasts an exceptional level of comfort, often described as a chair you "don't want to get up from."
Despite being made of wood, the seat surprisingly doesn't feel hard when you sit on it. The angle of the seat and the three-dimensional carving process, combined with the meticulous polishing by skilled craftsmen, create a comfortable seating experience. Furthermore, the paint has a non-slip finish, preventing your bottom from sliding forward and allowing you to maintain correct posture.
The backrest is also an important part that supports the body, and it utilizes Hida Sangyo's world-renowned craftsmanship of "bentwood." Bentwood is a material made by softening wood by steaming it, then fitting it into a curved shape and fixing it in place, and then drying it to form a curved surface. A backrest made with bentwood fits snugly against your back, allowing you to experience the comfort of being enveloped by the chair.
This chair was developed in collaboration with designer Toshimitsu Sasaki, based on the concept of "tactile design," aiming to create a chair that feels good to the touch and allows you to sit in it with your eyes closed. The armrests have a rounded form that slopes slightly downwards, making them easy to grip, and when you gently rest your elbows on them, your fingers naturally wrap around the underside of your elbows, providing a comfortable sense of security.
