Description

Klapstoel

“Klap” means “to fold” in Dutch. While staying in Ukiha City, designer Koen lived in a Japanese-style room and became interested in the custom of folding futons. What used to be a bedroom can be transformed into a living room by folding the futon and placing a table. I was fascinated by the Japanese culture of using a single space freely according to its purpose. On the other hand, cafes are essential in the Netherlands. It starts with morning coffee, tea during lunch and breaks, and even beer on the terrace in the evening after work. We live a life where we enjoy cafes anytime and anywhere.

Klapstoel and Klaptafel combine Koen's sense of the charm of Japanese life with Dutch culture. You can fold it up if you don't need it, and you can easily set it up in your room or on the terrace when you're enjoying tea with someone. You can use it freely in any space.

The shape is the most typical, standard, and very simple, but if you look closely, you can feel the expertise and handiwork of the creator. The legs of Klapstoel and Klaptafel are the same size to enhance the beauty of the line. We pursue comfort in a simple design.

In keeping with Koen's wishes for Japan's forests, all wood is made from solid Japanese oak.
