<What is Tono Hinoki>
This is Hinoki produced in the Tono region of Gifu Prefecture.
The eastern part of Mino, known as the Tono region (also known as Ura-Kiso), has been a timber producing region since the Muromachi period,
and was protected as an enclave of the Owari clan, especially during the Edo period.
Domestic wood produced in the Tono area is especially famous because it is used as a sacred tree during the Shikinen Sengu ceremony at Ise Grand Shrine.
Its characteristics are that the growth rings are fine and uniform, the core is close to the centre, and the material is pink, glossy, and fragrant. It has many attractive features such as beautiful wood grain and good tenacity.
