The shade is made of Japanese paper, a traditional Japanese craft, and is made with "Karasuyama Washi" from Tochigi Prefecture. It is a traditional craft with a long history and is used by the Imperial Household Agency for the Uta-go-kaihajime ceremony. Each piece is carefully made by hand. When lit, the fibers of the Japanese paper shine through, creating beautiful shadows.
The Japanese paper is not cut to the shape of the shade, but is made by hand, so even the cross section has a soft appearance.
The design was created by Domei, the president of Diclasse. The Auro series has been a long-loved bestseller since its release in 2007. It won the Good Design Award in 2008.
